This policy explains how i-chingbot.com ("we", "the Site") handles information when you visit. We aim to collect as little as possible.
Analytics
We use GoatCounter, a privacy-friendly analytics tool hosted on our own server, to understand aggregate visitor numbers (such as which pages are viewed). It does not use cookies, does not store your IP address or any information that identifies you, and does not track you across other websites. When you first tick a line in the changing-lines control on a hexagram page, that page view also sends one anonymous event (“Legge changing lines”) so we can see how many page views use it: only a count is kept, never which lines you ticked or which hexagram you were reading. No visitor data is shared with third-party analytics companies.
Cookies
The Site sets no cookies and uses no local storage for tracking. Because we use no analytics or marketing cookies, the Site does not display a cookie-consent banner. If we ever add non-essential cookies, we will update this policy and add consent where required.
Kept readings
The Oracle page can keep your recent casts so they are still there when you come back. That list lives only in this browser, on this device, in its local storage, under the single key ichingbot.keptReadings.v1. It is never uploaded: there is no account, no server copy, no sync and no backup — the writing and reading happen entirely inside the page, and no request of any kind leaves your device because of it.
One kept entry holds five things and nothing else: the hexagram number, which lines were moving, the hexagram it changes into, whether it was cast with coins or yarrow stalks, and the date and time you kept it. The Oracle never asks for a question, so no question, note or any other text you typed is stored — there is nothing of the kind to store. The newest 20 are kept and older ones drop off the end.
Clearing this site’s data deletes them, as does using a private window, and so does the “Clear all kept readings” button on the Oracle page itself. Because the only copy is on this device, they will not appear on your other devices, and they go with the browser profile if you delete it. “Download my readings” writes the list to a JSON file on your device so you can move it yourself; what happens to that file afterwards is up to you, not us.
Server logs
The hosting server may keep basic access logs (IP, request path, timestamp) for security and abuse prevention, retained for a limited time.
Discord
If you use our Discord bot or join our server, your interactions are governed by Discord's Privacy Policy. We do not store your Discord data beyond what is needed to respond to a reading request.
Your rights
If you are in the EU/EEA you have rights under GDPR (access, correction, deletion, portability, restriction, objection). Residents of California may have rights under the CCPA. To exercise any right, contact tarrantel@gmail.com.
Children
The Site is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
